The Unique Benefits of a Ductless System

Ductless air conditioners are all the rage these days. With our ever-growing fascination with tiny homes and energy-efficient HVAC systems, ductless technology keeps hogging the spotlight. That’s why we think it’s important that homeowners know exactly what they’re purchasing when they look into investing in these systems.

Ductless HVAC systems can both heat and cool a home. While they might not be as efficient during our coldest winter months, they can be amazing for nine or ten months of the year while we deal with mild temperatures and the need for an improvement of a few degrees in one direction or the other.

Want to know about how ductless systems work and why you would ever think of investing in one? Well, keep reading. If you’re an unconventional homeowner, or perhaps a homeowner with an entirely electric house, then we’ll tell you all about how perfect ductless AC systems in Kalispell, MT are!

How a Ductless HVAC System Works

For newcomers and veterans of the HVAC industry, here’s a bit of a refresher course on how ductless heat pumps work.

Normal heat pumps work in the same way that a central air conditioner does. They circulate refrigerant from an evaporator coil to a condenser coil, constantly pressurizing the material to draw in heat and expel it outdoors. This cycle happens over and over again, cooling the air in your home. However, a heat pump can function in reverse, essentially drawing heat from the outdoors and expelling it indoors, becoming a heater as well as a cooling system.

Now, ductless heat pumps do all of this without the need for air ducts. They work by hooking up multiple air handlers called mini splits up to an outdoor condenser unit that circulates the refrigerant. These air handlers can cool spaces in your home on their own so you don’t need air ducts to feel comfortable all year round!

Unique Situations for Ductless Heating and Cooling

While ductless mini splits can be used in conventional homes, they particularly shine in homes that are unique. For instance, older homes can have little to no room for air duct installation. This makes them perfect for smaller, individualized HVAC systems like ductless mini splits.

Homes that only have access to electrical energy can be perfect for ductless heating and cooling systems. They only require electricity, they’re extremely energy efficient, and they get the job done. If you’re taking steps to create an all-electric home, then this system could be the one for you!

They’re Perfect for Conventional Homes Too!

Don’t just assume that if you’ve got a conventional home, a ductless system won’t work for you. Ductless mini splits are perfect for homes with additions or specific areas that require additional cooling or heating.

Plus, they can work in tandem with a powerful heating system so that you’re covered for cooling and heating during mild seasons, and then you’ve got access to powerful heating from a gas furnace when the temperature drops.
